Intelligence - is it over-rated?

this is a thread that was inspired by narkisso's ( but he don't know it yet).. he made this comment at the end of a thread..."is intelligence over-estimated or over-rated"?.

how do you feel?

how much does intelligence tell about a person?.

Hard to say how much intelligence or lack of says about someone. You really need to 'experience' the whole personality.

Also, a person could have all the intelligence in the world - but still not use it!!

I am pregnant!!!!!

i just found out that i am pregnant and just wanted to share the exciting news !!!

my mom just called to tell me that a good friend of mine when i was in the "lie" is dying of colon cancer.. he asked my mom to talk to me about going to see him in the hospital before he goes into hospice.

even though i have been faded for over 10 years, when my mom spoke to me i could only remember the good times we had as friends when we were kids, so it was a no brainer for me, i am going to see him this afternoon.

i also asked my mom to get the phone number of another childhood friend who grew up with us that is dfed.

i felt bad for the newbie that came here for some advise and her thread got locked due to the immaturity of a few folks.. i know she could restart her own thread, but being new she might be reluctant to get involved with us again after that sorry display of manners before.

i hope i'm not out of line, but i'll start a new thread for her.

His family has completly refused to accept me or my newborn.

I don't know if you're familiar with the saying 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' meaning the only ones who really lose out are them by rejecting a beautiful grandchild and (potential) daughter-in-law.

How can I prevent it?

Hard answer but you can only try influence him against going back. Ultimately the decision is his. If he does go back, this will have implications for you - pressure for you to join or for him to break up with you and you need to be prepared for that.

Do you know why he got disfellowshipped? Perhaps there will be info on this forum which you can use to help him realise that his disfellowshipping was actually a good thing!!

And should I force him to cut what loose ties he has left with his family for the sake of my own?

My gut feeling is no. What purpose would it serve? They still won't want contact with you either way, it would just antagonise your b/f. Back to my first comment - they are doing a perfectly good job of hurting themselves, you don't really need to do anything!

i could spend 24/7 on here.

i think that's why i don't clean up the house as much.

So weird seeing this topic this morning - I didn't think I was too obsessed until last night when it appeared in my dreams - yes, a monitor with the active topics page - I even remember talking about some of the posters (but not what I was saying - before you start trying to prise confessions out of me)

I think my subconscious must be doing a spring-clean or something!

this quote is actually talking about the "uncertainty principle" - part of quantum physics... but it made me think of something else,.

do you find as you get older, you become less obsessed with working out all possible outcomes of a situation and trust your senses, or even yourself to determine a course of action.

I'd say it's more a case of stepping out/breaking free than growing up.

When you've got used to not thinking (like me) or having someone else (like the org) doing most of it for you, it can be difficult and positively frightening to start doing it for yourself again.

Whew that took some time to post - i've been beating off worms, spyware and the lot tonight - was it something to do with the ides of March?!

Whew - now that is one big pussycat!

greendawn - I used to have a neighbour who had two dogs and a cat - and they all used to go for their morning walk together. It was quite comical watching the cat trying to keep up with the others but he always managed! I do agree cats like that are probably a minority!
